The First Year Experience: Art Experience #1!

Today was the grand opening of the first art exhibit in the Crossman Gallery which is located in the Center of the Arts here on campus. The genius behind the idea for the exhibit made an appearance as well as some of the artists. The exhibit was entitled Sobre Vivendo: Manejese con Cuidado, meaning Surviving: Handle with Care. The works were all prints of various endangered species in a city in Mexico. The idea was to make people aware of these endangered species in order to help save them. The art was so magnificent, and the story behind each print was moving. It was a wonderful experience getting to see all of these pieces and the man behind it. At times it was slow moving because he only spoke Spanish and it took double the time to have a translator repeat what he just said. But it was absolutely amazing to hear everything he had to say about the exhibit. That particular exhibit has only been shown in 3 cities in Mexico, and 1 city in America. So to have it shown to us here on campus was so surreal. The art was so enjoyable and i did not even care that I had to write a paper on the exhibit. It was so enjoyable getting to share with my professor my thoughts on the exhibit. :) An experience I will never forget.

The First Year Experience: Week One

Week one flew by! It was only 3 days long after all. My classes went really well. All of my professors are fabulous, and I sit by friends in every single one of my classes. :) Monday and Wednesday seem to be my girl days. I spend most of my day with my two friends Amanda and Jordan, and then Tuesday and Thursday I usually go to dinner with Tim and Ben. The homework has been manageable so far and has been easy to balance with fun time.... Hopefully it stays that way. The facility here is wonderful. All of the buildings are beautiful inside and out and I really enjoy walking around campus, although it gets really hot some days. I'm sure it'll be freezing cold soon enough though... They have completed the construction project on the opposite side of the building next to us, and have now moved to right outside my bedroom window. They woke me up when they were a block away, and now I get woken up each and every morning by construction dudes right outside my window. But oh well! At least I never over sleep. :) Ultimately, its wonderful here. I miss my friends and my family all the time, but ill survive. These four years will most likely fly by faster then the last four years of high school did. Tis all for now, I'm off to dream land.

The First Year Experience: Class Update

So as you may already know, I have changed my major about 500 times this summer. Classes start Tuesday and I have finally made a final decision... I hope. ;) I no longer am an Art major, but will be a Secondary Education Major in Mathematics with a minor in Theatre. The classes I will be taking this semester include:
Personal Health and Wellness. 1 credit.
Elementary Functions (a Precalc class). 5 credits. (That means its important)
Global Perspectives. 3 credits. (I have this class with Ben)
World of the Arts. 3 credits. (I have this class with my new friend Tim)
New Student Seminar. 1 credit. (I have this class with Ben and Tim :) )
Women's Chorale. 1 credit. (I have this class with my new friend Jordan.)
Giving me a grand total of 14 credits this semester.
My new advisor recommends you take 15 credits, but he also said that it is best to go easy your first semester to get use to college living. And since typical students start with a math 120 class it would be easier, but because of my ACT score I am in a math 152 class... Therefore my class will be a bit more challenging. My health and wellness class ends in october, I have the two months before that to decide if i want to take a 1 credit gym class during november and december. That will put me at 15... but i only need 12 credits. so i suppose 14 will be good for now. :) This weekend has been flying by! Only two more free days and then classes will start on tuesday. Wish me Luck! Toodles for now.

The First Year Experience: Club U-Dub-Dub

DAY 2 at Whitewater!
Club U-Dub-Dub is the freshman orientation! It started at 10am. and went until 11:30 pm... it was a loooonnnnngggggg day, but it was so much fun! We all started the day with a hilarious comedian Micheal Dean Ester! His message was about following your dreams and "Do your thing!" He told us that our life is a movie, and we are the director. The entire show had us all laughing and clapping. It was a memory I will never forget. After that we went to our "club house" and I met my club! Club 62 the Beuax Arts learning community club! Beuax Arts it the name of the Arts learning community at UWW. Everyone in it is involved with the arts in one way or another. It gave us a chance to meet new people that were interested in the same things we were interested in. People in Band, Art, Music or Theatre. It was great because we played "get to know you" types of games. But it was different when it was all art students, because everyone knew what you were talking about! You could use stage terms, or music terms and no one was like, "wait... what's that?" So that was really fun, and really great. Ben was in that group so he was with me the entire day. But i began to meet a few new people as well. Kim Kim is a music major and she loves lady gaga. Another friend of mine is a guy named Tim. He is a Theatre major. Tim and I talked alot that night. I see us becoming good friends, and we have two classes together this semester. :) Later during the day we went to another lecture comedian this time a women. She wasn't as funny as the first guy, but she had so many wonderful messages. One moment that really hit everyone was when she related everything we do, to that of a 5 year old. She showed a picture of herself when she was 5, telling us that if you wouldn't put that 5 year old in a specific situation, why would you want yourself to be in that same situation? I quite enjoyed it, because many of my friends tease me about looking 5, sounding 5, acting 5, and eating in ways a 5 year old might eat. But that day, right there, i was able to turn to ben and say, "see, being 5 years old like me isn't so bad after all is it?" Just goes to show everyone that I'll be alright. :) Ive been making good decisions, and will continue to do so. Don't worry guys.
After that we had a bit of a break. We all changed and got all purpled up! We went back to our club house and made signs and put on purple face paint so we were all ready for the pep rally!!!! It started with us all chanting our various cheers! We were club 62. One chant was when our leader would say, "Who are you?" Then we would respond,"CLUB 62, AND WERE BETTER THAN YOU! WOOOOOOO!!!!!" It was so much fun. :) Everyone was pumped with energy and we then all ran through this tunnel of people including staff, football players, cheerleaders, and dancers! The entire freshman class of 2015 filled the stadium! As we waited for everything to start they played great music and the entire crowd was singing and dancing and cheering! At one point the speakers went out and the entire stadium continued to sing along to the song that had been on! It was so awesome and so much fun! we got to hear the band play and see the cheer and dancers do routines. The QB of the football team gave us a nice message and then we learned our school song! we sang through it twice and then we learned the warhawk strut. "shake shake shake your butt, and do the warhawk strut! Shake it to the right, shake it to the left! Shake it with the one you love tonight!" It was so much fun! Once the rally was over the entire class proceeded out to paint warhawk drive purple! We all boot on booties over our shoes grabbed the paint rolled and painted the street purple!!!!! Once it was all complete the cannon sounded signifying that we were ready to start out adventure here at Whitewater. So many memories were made that night, and will never be forgotten. Day 2 complete. Success.

The First Year Experience: Move in.

Today is the day. Moving away from loves park and headed for whitewater. Mother and I started the day off nice and early shopping for my last minute supplies. I got to say a few important goodbyes and then it was time to load the car... or should i say cars. :) My cougar was full, and so was the back of the suburban. We picked up Ms. Devin Jolene. and then my Mom, Dad, Devin, and I headed for the small city! When we arrived i went to get my room key while the others unloaded. Dad had a hobbley leg. so he waited while the rest of us carried aaaalllllll of my stuff to the 4th floor of the residence hall. that first trip seemed long but I'm already getting used to it. We then unpacked and set everything up. I met my roommate Jessie. She is very nice, often quiet, but I am sure that will change soon. And probably my favorite thing about her... she is short like me. :D Once i was settled and goodbyes were made I ventured off to change my major with Ben. I am now a secondary education major. degree in Math with a minor in Theatre. :) Sounds fun to me! Once that was settled it was off to get books! Whitewater has a wonderful textbook rental system. it was wonderfully organized and only 74 dollars for any and all books i needed and it was included in tuition! :) I found all of my books rather quickly except my Math book... they had about 3 aisles full of math books. and i need to find the one for my class. 152. I knew I needed a book for that class. I just could not find it anywhere! up and down the rows i went. searching and staring and it was nowhere to be found... after about 10 minutes of standing in the middle of the aisle. i found it. about 4 feet above my eye level. HAHA! if only i had a taller person with me... they could have helped me spot it faster. but either way. I got my books. and probably my favorite part about getting books... i got to pick which book i wanted! I didn't get stuck with yucky nasty books! I dug through the piles and got the clean, new, nice looking books with no bent covers or yucky corners. it was awesome.
Later that night we had a floor meeting for everyone on my floor. We met both of our RAs and then got a chance to mingle with other people on our floor. Everyone is a freshman like me. There are 72 on the floor. CRAZY! Jessie and I met the people across the hall from us and their neighbors. Jessie, Elisa, myself, and one other girl I can't remember her name... but the four of us went walking around campus. Looked around and that was fun. I then met up with ben for dinner at Drumlin Hall. My first meal on campus. Pizza, a bread stick, lemonade, and jello. :) it was delicious! After that Ben and I went to a hypnotist show. It was absolutely hilarious! Great way to end Day 1 at UWW!

HOORAY!!!!!

I am FINALY in Choraleers!!!!! I AM SO EXTREMELY EXCITED!!! YOU HAVE NO IDEA!!! =] you see, Choraleers is an audition choir at my school. The past two years I have been in treble choir, which is an all girls choir. I have loved these past two years because everyone that is in that choir has had the same lunch and the same gym class. I have gotten really close to my girl friends. And since it is an all girls choir that all means an all girls gym. The all girls gym has been the absolute most amazing thing!! I love it because there are no guys that snatch the ball away from you, and no guys that think you wont do good and they never let you play. Its all girls so we all tend to participate... with the exception of a few weird people. ha ha. I just love it because I don't have to worry about anyone else I can play and have fun and get a good grade. As many of you know, stupid people have decide to go to the 7 periods instead of blocks at Harlem, so next year all of this will change. Choir students won't have gym or lunch together, everything will be all jumbled and we are going to be split up. =( Its going to be sad. This year almost all of my friends are in Choraleers. I want to be in it too! Today the list for next years choir was posted and I, Stephanie Joy R., is in Choraleers!!! AAAAAHHHH!!!!! I Feel like screaming and crying and peeing all at the same time!!!! I am so excited and SO HAPPY!! =] It is ALL thanks to Mrs. Cain! =] I love that women so much. She has done WAY too much for me to write on here, but the list goes on and on. This year, sadly, is her last year teaching at Harlem, but I will never forget this women. I truly love her, and thank her everyday for making my life what it is. I would not be the person I am today, without her. I must go now before I start crying...

Friends.

I have been thinking alot lately, and something that I realised is that I am really really glad that I have so many amazing and wonderful friends. So I am going to talk about my friends in this post. They aren't in any special order...

#1. Devin Jolene Cardot. =]
We have been best friends for 11 years now. We aren't as close as we once were, but we are still best friends, and I LOVE THIS CHICK! She is so hilarious, every time I am with her I can not stop cracking up! We have had so many good times together and those times just keep coming... =]

#2Makenzie Adel Krebeck.

Maky and I have been friends since 7th grade. We don't hang out that much, but this girl brightens my day every time I see her. She is always smiling and making people happy. =]

#3 Benjamin Evan Riddle.

I met Benjee in 7th grade. We weren't really close then... but We have became best friends over the year. Ben is that person that I can talk to about anything. He's so fun to be around, and his crazyness cracks me up. His family is so sweet, and me and Ben have alot in common. We talk ALOT. Friday we had a half day, and after hanging out with a few friends I went to Ben's house for 9 hours! haha. We just talked and talked and talk. And I'm going over to his house again today. =] What can I say. We are best friends. =]

#4 Sean Micheal Mohler.

Don't tell anyone his middle name. He might freak out. haha. Sean is crazy. He is probably the crazyest and most obnoxious person I know. (That says alot considering my sister is pretty obnoxious.) But yea. Sean is crazy, but I love him. =] Hes one of my really good friends too.

#5 Adaweya Diab

Addie and I don't hang out... ever. lol. But we Talk SSSOOOO much. She knows just about every single thing that ever happens in my life, and I am not over exaggerating. I tell her everything. She's a good friend, I am so glad that I have her in my life. =]

#6 Alyrica Hecox.

Alyrica is so cute. We have been friends for a while but it was really this year that we started talking alot. We have gotten really close and its nice to have a breakfast Buddie every morning at school. =]

#7 Austin Gabriel Brummett.

Austin is so cute. We aren't dating anymore, but that's okay because we are still really close and we are still good friends. We have spent alot of time together this year. We have alot of fun when we are together and I am never going to forget this kid. Hes changed my life. Hes amazing. =]

Now... i would love to write more about all of the amazing people in my life. But myspace is being stupid and it won't let me get more pictures of my people. So i will have to make a part 2 of this.

Buh Bye for now...

First Day.

Today was the first day of a new semester. Therefore, I get all new classes. My new schedule goes like this...

1st block: Intro to Art
2nd block: Honors Biology Acc.
3rd block: Treble Choir/ Gym
4th block: Health

Intro to Art:
I was very excited to have this class. ART! WOO! but this... is intro to art. Where I will be relearning the basic art elements over again for about the 500th time. I didn't really think the class would be easy, but I thought I would enjoy it. I really miss art class. But I do not know anyone in that class except one girl that I know that is a freshman. The class today was really EXTREMELY boring. And nobody talked. They were like ZOMBIES! The teacher asked a question, and everyone just sat there... I nodded and smiled. =] The teacher seemed nice, but she is a hard grader. I'm a little worried about that part... She said probably one person in the class would get an A. That person will be me, because I do not get B's. ESPECIALLY IN ART CLASS!!!!!

Honors Biology Acc.
THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE CLASS!!!! I LOVE SCIENCE! I don't really like biology, because of what you learn about, but I think the class will be fun. The teacher is great, and I KNEW EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THAT CLASS!! except for one... but hes really nice! we talked and were kind of friends now. =] The people in that class are so cool, and I am just really going to love that class. I already know. It is going to be so much fun everyday. Other than what we are learning but still... So I sit next to Cody. I hope we get to keep our seats so that he will be my lab partner. Hes cool. Then to the left I sit by Tyler Ward. =] HAHA! I love that kid. I have known him since forever and hes hilarious. Then behind me is this kid Ben that i didn't know, but now i know. And also my good friend Haley. =] Yep... that class is going to be awesome.

Choir/Gym
same old. same old.

Lunch.
Lunch today was crazy. My normal was extra crowded. 6 new people sat at our table. Keep in mind these tables are suppose to seat 8. And we already had 7, now we have 6 more. =( I think tomorrow I will sit with my friends, not Austin's friends. I love his friends and I love him. But i didn't like lunch today. Tomorrow I would like to sit with Devin and Makenzie and Cody, but Austin might get mad if I start being with Cody all the time... so I'm not sure what I am going to do yet.

Health
I didn't really want to take health. It is required so I am taking it. I hate that class. After one day, I already don't like it. I am a student that has all accelerated classes and I get A's. Then I go to health. And I have a "team teacher" which is basically a teacher for people who need extra help or need to be taught differently or something. I don't know. But I have never had one before, and I don't need one now. The teacher is fine. I like him. But I don't like the people in my class. And the teacher has to explain every single word he says in easier words. And I am really not use to that, I am use to my teachers using big words. And not having to explain them. It was annoying. But yea, that was my first day with new classes.

until next time...
